The story of\u00a0<\/span>robuTER<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>begins in a research lab at\u00a0<\/span>INRIA<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>in the early 1980s. At the time, researchers in\u00a0<\/span>computer vision<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>were developing algorithms to perceive and analyze visual environments. Their goal was clear:\u00a0<\/span>to apply these algorithms to robotics<\/strong>, in order to create machines capable of navigating intelligently through the real world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It was in this context that\u00a0<\/span>Vincent Dupourqu\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>envisioned the very first robuTER. He designed an\u00a0<\/span>autonomous mobile robot from an electric wheelchair<\/strong>, intended to serve as a platform for experimenting with service robotics. The name\u00a0<\/span>robuTER<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>is a play on words that reflects this fusion: it combines\u00a0<\/span>ROBot<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>compuTER<\/strong>, symbolizing the union of mobile mechanics and embedded intelligence.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0<\/span>1985<\/strong>, convinced of the innovation\u2019s potential, Vincent founded\u00a0<\/span>Robosoft<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>industrialize and commercialize<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>the robuTER. It quickly became one of the first mobile service robots in Europe, used for research, education, and technical development.<\/p>\n

Between 1985 and the late 1990s,\u00a0<\/span>more than 100 robuTER units were manufactured<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and deployed in research laboratories across the world. robuTER laid the groundwork for what is now a major field: robots designed to navigate and assist in human environments \u2014\u00a0<\/span>what we now call AMRs: Autonomous Mobile Robots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
