At the time, researchers in<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>computer vision<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>were developing algorithms to perceive and analyze visual environments. Their goal was clear:<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>to apply these algorithms to robotics<\/strong>, in order to create machines capable of navigating intelligently through the real world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was in this context that<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Vincent Dupourqu\u00e9<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>envisioned the very first robuTER. He designed an<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>autonomous mobile robot from an electric wheelchair<\/strong>, intended to serve as a platform for experimenting with service robotics.
